Last Nights Shelf

If you weren’t at last night’s Shelf awards (sponsored partly by Know) – shame on you, you missed a cracking event.

Huge congratulations to Charly Gray and James Hobbs from Lincoln for winning the all-new, no expense spared, floating shelf on which to place all future awards – we’re expecting to hear great things. In second place was Neil Ritson and Stefan van Zoggel, also from Lincoln, followed by Casey Bird and Lee Hudson from Gloucestershire.

Our new iPad app

I used to have a creative director who always used to say don’t work harder, work smarter (You know who you are!). I finally took on his advice last night – four years later – while sat at home drawing up some scamps ready for a tissue meeting today. Google images is always handy to use to try and get people / objects looking pretty accurate and realistic – which can take a while (it does with me anyways). So I used to work hard.

Last night I googled a Ninja on my iPad. And suddenly the smarter bit hit me. Not only did I have the perfect image in the right position, but I could put my layout paper over the iPad and use it as a lightbox. Perfect. You can also easily draw images bigger than the screen by tracing in sections and moving the image. I’m sure its the only thing you can do on it without Wifi, and / or an app, but I will now use it every time scamps are required.

NB:  If you do do this, putting more than two fingers on the screen helps to stop the image / screen moving. Blue tack on the edges and no fingers on the screen is an alternative

Estonia: Free, Quick and Easy

888303238_c4dcdfe3c6

We recently travelled over to Estonia for a briefing from one of our favourite clients. It was a great meeting and they treated us to some welcome hospitality in the restaurants and bars of Tallinn.

The thing that made the biggest impression on us (well, apart from the stunning women, -30C temperature and Russian Mafia types) was the free wi-fi access everywhere you went.

The hotel, cafes, pubs, restaurants, everywhere had free and easy access to wi-fi. It made such a difference not having to worry about being caned by o2 or getting ripped off for using substandard wi-fi when we just wanted to read an email or look at a map.

Estonia is one of the most wired (or unwired in this case) countries in the world – it’s the home of Skype and Kazaa – and the open wifi idea was the brainchild of a geek and his small organisation - http://wifi.ee – that lobbied hotels, pubs, cafes etc to open up their wifi to all.

Estonians now see free wifi as a right, if a coffee shop, pub or other public arena doesn’t have free wifi they will go somewhere else.

It is easy to see how this policy helps the takeup of new devices, technologies and mobile tools amongst the population giving Estonian developers the advantage of a highly connected target audience when developing and launching new ideas.

Intoxicology

intox

Andy Pearson of BBC’s Something For The Weekend fame approached Know to develop his brand website. Intoxicology’s goal is to make cocktails accessible for everyone. With recipes, tips, video guides and an online store it is well on the way to achieving that goal.

San Miguel

Know developed the eCRM campaign for San Miguel. Capturing the data of drinkers pushed to the website from the TV and press campaign using a competition mechanic. Whilst the results are confidential, we can say that it outperformed the target set by the client.

It’s All About You

all about you 1

We’ve just launched  a new site – “all about you” -  A start up offering unique  private tours of London.  Tailored  to each customer, they help them enjoy our city as insiders. Aimed at the busy professional in London on business for a few days, their friendly escorts (no ‘extras’ though!) are helping visitors from around the world escape from tourist clichés and kitsch souvenirs.

The last couple of months

have been insanely busy at Know towers. We’ve been working across a bunch of new clients creating campaigns using social media, mobile and web. When it all goes live, we’ll let  you know.
